letter to OMG team
hi if you would like to know. last sat I had a meet-up with the Aljunied-Hougang Chairman, Mr Chee Siang. the 3 st nich gurls were there also, i can remember the one called Trina. they were doing a project together, 3 person only, a project in their school; they have sent their proposal to their teachers in school already.
a few things that he mentioned. we are free to adopt or get any amount of fundings from him/his committee. One important thing, the project/proposal must be feasible and have an outstanding objective. To my knowledge that I briefly describe our project idea to him and that we have 9 person; NEA only allow 4-5 people per group and stuffs. He said no problem. He will try to liase with NEA aka Lionel side. In addition, since he is pumping in money, he will also put in one or two committee member, most probably his upcoming Chair and VIce-Chair person as he may have a change of committee soon. (nt 4 us 2 worry)
he too mentioned that we can get even a million dollar proposal to him and that it must serve at least 1/4 of the targetted group, he does not want to waste any money. he said he had the opportunity to go out and meet people and even had some of the school principals as his private contacts. So we can tapped on his network. basically he can provide us any amount of fundings, I told him we need 150K.
we had a discussion back in his little cosy room, with air-conditioning. he told us a few examples/stories of his projects. he generally expect a 20k project to be more than 100 pages long; along with many explanations about how each of the committee is doing and make sure everything had a back-up plan and more..
we are free to do any project in any district/constituency/grc due to our project objectives, mass advertising of green messages. however we are advertised that if we want to target any part of singapore, we may need to face some political factors such as crossing of constituency/district zones.
SOME interesting fact that he mentioned: NEA is separated into different departments, meaning they work on different organisations and different structures. and unlike NEA, the best they can give is 5K. besides, in Singapore,for every 1K fundings, there must be one proposal, so our fundings must all be accounted for and written properly. Proposal must be really solid.
i left after an hour, there was also other people from run 6 i think. so we may meet some unfamiliar faces if we are going to have funds from mr Chee Siang.
He is but a volunteer, serving the army. so do not expect him to reply asap. may take as long as a month due to his unfix timing in army. but he will reply as soon as he had the time to do so according to his priority at that point in time.
Conclusion:
He is almost the same as Lionel. The problem lies with us, dun mind me saying. We kept saying we are busy people. I do agree to a certain extend. Now, if we are to work together. I think we really need to spend more time writing a proposal. In fact, I do agree that since we cannot work together in a group of 9, maybe we can split on smaller projects. A suggestion, we work two small events. At the end of the day, we can have a combined event "The Carnival" next year. I applaud all for the hard work thus far.
